2.O President’s Report

Neil reported that the club has hand another good year of rides, with a ride scheduled for every Sunday for the last 12 months.  Of those rides only a small number have been cancelled.  The majority of rides have a good attendance.  We have seen a couple of new ride leaders over this period, which has been very positive.  The club has put on a few away trips which have been a highlight for those who attended.

The club has been running a Meetup page has been operating for a year now, which has grown to 149 members.  While only a small percentage of those on the site actually attend rides, we have seen some join the club.  When looking at the number of people visiting the site to see what is happening, there is a steady stream of people visiting.   It will be worth continuing with the site as it provides a valuable link to a wide community of riders and it also demonstrates to that community we are consistent in providing rides.

To visit the site click go to:  https://www.meetup.com/Auckland-Sport-Bikes-Meetup/  Club members are encouraged to join.

In terms of the number of members in the club, this has increased from 27 paying members in 2018 to 35 for 2019.  The additional numbers can, in the most part, be put down to the Meetup page.

  3.O Treasurer’s Report

5.0 General Business

a)      IT – we thank CTAS and Grant for the ongoing support provided to the club by providing and running the Two Wheels website and TXTing.  We also thank Gordon for his support with maintaining the Facebook page.

b)      Thanks and acknowledgement goes to Ken and Rosemary Currie for the use of their premises again.  Hope Rosemary gets well soon.

c)      Public Liability Insurance – it was agreed by the club that we drop the insurance.  This cost is continuing to rise and it was believed by the members that it would be unlikely that a claim against the policy would be successful.  In terms of risk/benefit members felt it was difficult to justify.

d)      Subscription Fees – there was a good debate about the fees, which have remained at $35/yr for the last 10 years.  Members voted on increasing the fees to $40/yr.  The rationale was to be able to raise additional income to provide a greater benefit back to members.  There were a number of ideas put forward, which reinforced there were opportunities to enhance the value the club could provide to paying members if it had additional funds.   In order to reduce administration of fees, members will be requested to pay annually in August.

e)      Michael Noonan was the Guest Speaker.  Michael had a great story to tell about the bike he built and ran across the Bonneville Salt Lake.  We enjoyed his story which was fascinating regarding the challenges riding on the Salt Lake, what you needed to do to prep a bike so it will perform at such a high altitude and the amazing engineering ingenuity to design and build his supercharged MotoGuzzi v35.  For those who could not attend, Michael was generous to provide a link to the documentary  https://vimeo.com/288660163 The pass word is:  West Wendover 2017
